Make iGoogle Your Startup Page in Microsoft Outlook

I m a regular user of Microsoft outlook and I use iGoogle as my dashboard and as I m in habit of trying new things on my Windows XP desktop, I tried to combine both Microsoft outlook and iGoogle, which is really very simple to do…

In order to combine both of them, we have to create a new folder, and then give it a suitable name accordingly. Now right click on the new folder and choose properties, and then go to homepage tab, check the box for “Show my homepage by default for this folder”. Than write the url of iGoogle, which is - http://www.google.com/ig

You can change that anytime, and make any other web page as your homepage.

By now, we can view our iGoogle page as our homepage by just clicking on the folder.

Set iGoogle as the Default Startup Page

Open up the Options panel through Tools \ Options on the menu, and then choose the Advanced Options button on the other tab.

You'll see a setting for "Startup in this folder" with a Browse button next to it. Click that button and choose the iGoogle folder as your startup page.

Now when you startup Outlook, you'll be taken directly to your iGoogle dashboard and for the first time it asks for login.

Find a Forgotten Password Saved in Firefox

Personally, I like Mozilla Firefox and I have been using it for years. Though I m not against Internet Explorer. But honestly speaking I like firefox because of its features and add ons.

Firefox, like many popular browsers, has a built-in functionality to save passwords. I often use the save password feature so often that I've completely forgotten my passwords when I need to login to the same website on another computer. But I got an easy way to locate those saved passwords.

In Firefox, navigate to the Tools \ Options menu item. Select the Privacy button, the Passwords tab, and then click on View Saved Passwords. You'll be presented with this screen:

Click the Show Passwords button, and navigate down to the website password you are looking for.

For me this was great help, as I tend to forget my passwords and the best feature in these browsers is that they offer to remember passwords…

How to Detect and Repair Applications In Microsoft Office 2007

I am fade up of crashing Microsoft Office application and locking. The things which I can’t handle in Microsoft office are Outlook and access.

Windows Office 2007 has a new feature (which replaces detect and repair) which allows you to diagnose and repair problems when they occur in your daily tasks.  The diagnostic utility can check the Windows system event log, hard drive, memory, application compatibility, updated service packs, and Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology (SMART) if your hard drive supports it.  I know it sounds like a lot, but let me show you how easy this is to run.

Start \ Programs \ Microsoft Office \ Microsoft Office Tools \ Microsoft Office Diagnostics

The Microsoft Office Diagnostics splash screen will open.  Then Click Continue.

Next you are presented with the Start Diagnostics Screen showing you what is going to be checked and the status of each diagnostic.  When you are ready, click Run Diagnostics.

While the Diagnostics run you will see the status bars as each tests completes.  When it's complete, hit Continue.

You will get a limited detail of what was fixed.  In this example all 5 diagnostic tests ran and one problem was identified and fixed.  If you are ok with that just close out and you are done.  If you want to get additional information then click on "Detailed results" and you can get more information.

When you look close at the detailed information in this example you can see there was a problem with the installation and this tool automatically fixed it.

Unfortunately for an administrator or power user this utility "as is" does not display specific results (you need to explore it).  However when you are in a hurry and need your applications up and running to finish your work Microsoft Office Diagnostics works great!

How to make VLC Player look like Windows Media Player 11 in your Windows XP

I was Exploring VLC media player...Which I use regularly to view songs and movies. While Exploring VLC media player …I found one of its features of changing Skins….. So I started with it and tried to change its skin.. . which was quite simple…  and I would like to share it with you…

What you need to do is just download the skin named WMP11 from the skins page. This skin looks a lot like Windows Media Player 11. It's not exactly the same, but it's a pretty good skin. To install it on your windows>>

 To install on Windows:

Select the "VLC media player (skins)" option from the Start menu program group. This will start VLC in the right mode to select skins. Right click on the title bar area, and choose Select skin \ Open skin and choose the skin file that you have downloaded.

That was very EASY!!! And Enjoy the look of Windows media player in VLC media player…

Closing Microsoft Office's Clipboard Bar

I have been using Microsoft office clipboard by the time I started working on Microsoft windows xp. I actually find it really useful. Though I dnt need it when I m working at home... but really it’s a very good and a useful option to use in office to save time and get everything on clipboard. I normally have to input the same information into many different templates and files’ so being able to grab it straight from the clipboard is great and easy.

But some of people really find it annoying and disturbing when it pops up in-between. My friend asked me about how to disable Microsoft office clipboard option in his Microsoft windows vista. So here is the solution:

You can easily remove it by clicking the Options button at the bottom and unchecking the options to "Show Office Clipboard", and closing the panel.

Upgrade Your Live Bookmarks with LiveClick

I always bookmark those pages which I like or which I find interesting. I use Firefox, as many of us do (because of its extensions and add ons)and if you face any Internet browser problems than free to call 1 800 602 586. There is an ext extension in Firefox, LiveClick which allows you to give as many as upgrades. So, let’s begin with it.

On the left: Firefox's wimpy Live Bookmarks. On the right: Upgraded and powerful LiveClick bookmarks! Now that we've set the bookmark to monitor, we'll get a notification right above the system tray whenever a new item shows up in the feed.

Opening up the LiveClick options gives you a world of settings to play with, including my favorite: Middle-click opens location in a new tab. The Menus tab gives another option that makes me thrilled… favicons instead of livemark icons. I keep my live bookmarks in their own folder, so why not see the icon of the site instead of the same redundant icon?

In order to make sure that the Open Location function works, there's a new item in the properties for each bookmark: Location. Here's where you can set the location of the site itself separately from the feed.

Hmm that was easy...Now I m thinking to reinstall my windows XP

Create a TinyUrl in Firefox

I always share good articles and good piece of tech news with my friends. Sometimes the links are so long that they break or cut- off which really irritates me.  I have seen it on twitter, that it turns the long urls into a tiny URL. Soon I found the solution to this problem, there is service called TinyUrl that turns a long link into a short link.

If you find yourself using this feature all the time, then you need the TinyUrl Creator extension for Firefox, which makes it very easy to not only create TinyUrls, but access the ones that you've already created.

For that you have to install this Firefox extension. Once installed, just right-click on any link, and choose "Create TinyURL for this Page".

With the default settings you'll get a popup confirmation that tells you the new link has been copied to your clipboard.

If you click the Save button, you can save the new TinyURL into Firefox. Note that this doesn't save as a bookmark, it saves in the extension's saved panel.

To view TinyURLs that you have saved, go to Tools \ TinyUrl Creator \ View Saved.

There you can see the list of all the saved links, and then the copy of the TinyUrl on the clipboard. This extension has been so helpful and useful for me…as I m in habit of sharing goods links with colleagues and Friends.

Isn’t it so easy to use….   And at any point you need help or Support with Internet Browser installation you can always contact us at 1 800 602 586.

Good Day and Happy New Year to all…
